What have you done today to make you feel proud?
My wife is a big fan of the TV Show Miranda. Miranda runs a shop and the shop manager now and then holds up a face mask of Heather Smalls and sings out "What have you done today to make you feel proud" from the the single Proud by M People from 2000.
It got me thinking about my work over the last 10 years in New Zealand. When I update my CV or my LinkedIn profile so many of us write about the technology we have handled or been exposed to. Or we list out the frameworks we know and can implement such as UML, BPMN and Agile. I do this too and none of this makes me feel proud or gives me the warm fuzzies.
So then I decided to look at my work bottom up and work my way up from technical and functional levels that I typically deliver at and see what the business problems were that I helped solve as part of a larger team. The minute I started to do this, the story changed completely as did my view of the work I had been a part of. So here goes.
What have you done in the last 10 years in NZ that makes you feel proud?
And remember if you can't trace your work to a Business problem you should challenge it as you might be wasting your time and energy.
